About

I’m Luca Pierabella. Co-founder and President of Hectiq, founder of Spiga, angel investor. Graphics and pipeline engineer, based in Bordeaux, France.

The short version: former Technical Artist turned tools and pipeline engineer. These days the toolbox is wider: code, pipelines, business, and everything in between.

The longer version

I studied computer graphics at BigRock in Treviso and graduated in Computer Science at the University of L’Aquila. I started out on the art side of real-time 3D, but I kept gravitating toward the technical end of it: rigs, shaders, and eventually the pipelines and tools that let a whole team ship.

At Asobo Studio I worked on multiple HoloLens projects, including HoloTour and the Le Mont Saint Michel mixed reality experience, and on enterprise XR for clients in medical, naval, and industrial fields. Then came Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, where I moved fully into tools and pipeline work: building the 3ds Max tooling and glTF export pipeline used by internal teams and third-party developers, and contributing over 100 commits to the open source BabylonJS exporter along the way.

Hectiq

In Bordeaux, together with other Flight Simulator veterans, I co-founded Hectiq. We work as a team of around ten, a tight core plus trusted external collaborators. We shipped Los Pingheros on PC and Nintendo Switch in 2025, and we are now building Painted Kingdoms, a painterly tower defense with 11k+ wishlists on Steam. We also offer co-development and technical services for other studios: Unity, multiplayer and rollback netcode, CI/CD pipelines for Steam and Switch.

Spiga

Spiga is my consulting practice: graphics pipelines, workflow automation, custom tooling, and self-hosted IT infrastructure with data ownership at the core. I’m currently building 3D reconstruction and visualization pipelines for Luxottica. Spiga is also my vehicle for small angel investments in games.

Off the clock

I’m a self-hosting and data ownership enthusiast. I run my own home server and automation stack end to end, from hardware to services, and I hold the strong opinion that owning your data should be the default, not the exception. Much of what I recommend to consulting clients gets tested on my own infrastructure first.
